Ishmael Bangura

Founder & CEO, SLONEC

Ishmael Bangura founded SLONEC in Freetown on 4 April 2023. He leads SLONEC Group Africa and heads SLONEC Advisory (UK) in London.

A professional accountant, he began his career in accounting and built in-depth knowledge of financial analysis, statutory accounts preparation, audits and taxation across the UK and international settings. He has spent about 15 years as a practising accountant and tax adviser in the UK, serving more than 950 clients, with UK advisory and analysis experience alongside. His international tax background carries straight into Sierra Leone, whose tax system is structurally similar to the UK’s, with GST working much like UK VAT.

An entrepreneur who has set up businesses of his own, he founded IB&Co Accountants and Impactable (T&R), including the ‘We Pay It’ venture. He is known for a strategic approach to turning business challenges into opportunities and actively seeks partnerships that open new ones. In 2024 the African Consulting Group named him among the Top 100 Professionals in Sierra Leone.

“We are firmly of the view that Africa’s future belongs to institutions that are well-governed, forward-thinking, and globally competitive. SLONEC is being deliberately and systematically built to be one of those institutions.”
