How SLONEC Accountancy helps

SLONEC Accountancy

SLONEC Accountancy looks after the finances of businesses and organisations in Sierra Leone. We keep your books, run your payroll, prepare and file your tax returns and help you through your audit. SLONEC was founded in Freetown on 4 April 2023 and works from 1 Hannah Benka-Coker Street.

Bookkeeping and management accounts

Good decisions depend on knowing your numbers. We record your income and spending, reconcile your bank and mobile money accounts, and prepare management accounts that show how the organisation is doing. You get figures you can use to plan, to talk to your bank and to answer questions from investors, boards or funders.

Payroll

We run your monthly payroll, prepare payslips and calculate PAYE and NASSIT deductions, so your staff are paid correctly and your returns match what has been paid. If you are growing your team, we can set new starters up on payroll from their first month.

Tax / Compliance

We prepare and file your returns with the National Revenue Authority, including PAYE, GST, companies’ income tax and withholding tax, and handle NASSIT contributions. When the NRA raises a query or carries out a field audit, we deal with it alongside you.

Year-end accounts and audit support

We prepare your year-end financial statements and help you get ready for your audit. That means organised records, clear schedules and answers for your auditor’s questions, which makes the audit quicker and less disruptive for your staff.

Donor-grant financial management

NGOs and donor-funded projects have to account for every grant separately and report to funders in their own formats. We set up grant budgets and coding, track spending against each grant, prepare donor financial reports and help you get ready for donor audits and reviews.

Accounting in Sierra Leone: what to keep on top of

Most organisations in Sierra Leone deal with the same core obligations: PAYE and income tax with the National Revenue Authority (NRA), social security contributions to NASSIT for every employee, GST if you are registered for it, and withholding tax on certain payments to suppliers and contractors. Each Finance Act can change rates and rules, and the NRA expects returns on time whether or not anyone in the business has had time to prepare them.

That is where most problems start. Records are kept in different places, payroll is worked out by hand, and returns are pulled together at the last minute. When the NRA raises a query, the paperwork to answer it is hard to find. We set up a simple routine so the books, the payroll and the returns all come from the same records, and anything unusual is picked up early rather than at year end.

We work with organisations of every size within Sierra Leone and beyond, from sole traders to NGOs managing donor funds. Since 2023 our team has worked from 1 Hannah Benka-Coker Street in Freetown, so we know how the NRA, NASSIT and the banks work in practice, not only on paper.

We keep your books, run your payroll, prepare and file your tax returns with the National Revenue Authority, and help you with year-end accounts, audits and donor-grant reporting.

Do you work with NGOs and donor-funded projects?

Yes. For NGOs and donor-funded projects we manage grant budgets and donor financial reporting as well as payroll and tax compliance.

Can you help if I own a business in Sierra Leone but live in the UK?

Yes. We work with owners based abroad, including in the UK, who need a team they can rely on to look after their business finances in Sierra Leone.

How do I get a quote?

Use the Request a quote form or book a discovery call. We agree the scope, what we need from you and who your contact will be, then send you a quote.

Can you take over from our current accountant or bookkeeper?

Yes. We agree a handover date, collect the records and files we need, check the opening balances and any returns that are outstanding, and then take over the routine. If there are gaps, we tell you what they are and how we plan to close them.
